Savoy Cabbage

Savoy Cabbage

Has anybody tried this?

It's something a lot of mentor-midwives I know suggest for painful/engorged breasts, and was wondering if it had worked for any of you.
Apparently you stick the cabbage in the fridge and then use the rounded leaves. There's plenty of positive anecdotal evidence, and apparently there's some weak scientific evidence to back it up (I haven't managed to track that down yet).
I'm wondering if it had been suggested to any of you, and what you thought of the idea if you had :?:

I found it really helped when I was painfully engorged. When engorged the outside of the breast feels really lumpy and infact really similar in texture to the cabbage leaf and the leaf seems to almost massage the swellings,I just put the leaf inside my bra. I always recommend this tip to other mums! Only disadvantage is they don't absorb leaking milk!! :D

I've heard it helps but you need to be careful as there is a chemical compound in cabbage that can dry up breastmilk so it needs to be used with caution by breastfeeding mothers. However, it's good for mothers who have decided, for whatever reason, not to breastfeed but who are suffering from engorgement!
